Talk Brief
The image of Nasik is conventionally composed of its importance as a holy city hosting the famous Kumbh Mela every twelve years or, more recently, as the country's wine capital. This usually overshadows other characteristics of the city and its alternate histories, such as its colonial past or post-independence industrialization. Exploring the city as an assemblage of plural processes of making, our talk looked at the city's lesser-known or unknown dimensions. By understanding these factors across events, aspects, and people, we revisit the city to unpack its multifold identities. We highlight marginal perspectives on the city to reconstitute its understanding as a complex and diverse city in the popular imagination.
This talk was delivered at NMIMS’s Balwant Sheth School of Architecture (BSSA) in Mumbai on 2nd August 2024.
